Student-centred Shared Education

This working group, which started in March 2021, was focused on creating Shared Education projects by students, for students. A booklet containing these projects was launched at Stormont in August 2021 to act as a framework of student-centred ideas which, in the future, can be used by Shared Education partnerships to create memorable, effective and beneficial experiences for students in all schools.

The Working Group found in our research that for students to get the most from Shared Education, students need to be involved in the decision-making process. Students also must see stronger links between schools that do not begin and end with 6-8 week programmes. The next step section of each programme inside this booklet is crucial as it provides a pathway to extending and expanding each programme, growing the links between the students involved in shared education.

We hope the programmes in this book are the next step towards better relations in Northern Ireland and the mainstreaming of Shared education.
