SSUNI is now considering applications for positions on our Board. An application form can be found here. The deadline for submission is November 15th.

Stage 1: Written Application Form.

This will result in shortlisting to determine those who will make it through to Stage 2. The deadline for submission is November 15th.

Stage 2: Interviews with our Student Executive.

We will be holding interviews in the week commencing November 20th. You will need to be free to come along to this, and they will take place outside of working hours and online.

What is the Board?

The Board is the legal arm of our organisation and has no control over internal policy, as we are a student-powered, adult-supported union. Ideally, the Board comprises relevant experts who can advise the Student Executive on their work. The Board is expected to meet at least three times per year and on an ad hoc basis. Meetings will usually be online, but this will be subject to the decision of the Board, whether to meet in person or not. All meetings will take place outside of working hours. A term on the Board is three years, and each member can be on the Board for up to two terms. Board members can leave the Board at any point during a term in agreement with the Executive. This role is in a volunteering capacity.

There will also be an appointed Safeguarding Officer, and Deputy Safeguarding Officer.

Essential Criteria:

  • Interest in education and youth voice.

  • Relevant experience, for example in a campaigning or awareness raising or representative role within a children or young people’s organisation.

  • Available outside of normal working hours.

  • An interest in the work of the Secondary Students’ Union of NI and a willingness to develop knowledge and skills in the leadership of the organisation. 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in safeguarding training/ working as Safeguarding Lead within your organisation.

  • Confidence in expressing views and respecting the views of others

  • Willing to contribute any specific skills, knowledge and experience to assist the Board of Directors in reaching sound decisions. This may involve examining reports and consultations, leading discussions, as well as providing specific advice and guidance on issues where you have particular expertise.
